NRPA partnered with Sasaki, leaders in design and planning, to develop Climate.Park.Change., a web-based tool that provides a comprehensive examination of climate change risks and strategies for parks along with environmental friendly strategies to manage parks. The tool compiles data on how climate change is affecting park and recreation spaces and offers physical design and community solutions to address climate impacts and other challenges. The tool also provides information on how to mitigate the impacts of park management by conserving resources, reducing emissions and protecting both human and environmental health. Research including the literature reviews, interviews, surveys and testing with park and recreation professionals and agencies contributed to the tool.

Park professionals have the opportunity to mitigate the environmental impacts of their operations by conserving resources, reducing emissions, and protecting both human and environmental health. These opportunities help to ensure environmentally health of their community while also mitigating and addressing climate impacts. The strategies are loosely grouped into the following sections: Horticultural and Ecological, Water, Waste Management, and Energy. Together, they form a best practice guide for environmentally responsible park operations for park departments, from administration to grounds crew. This resource is woven into Climate.Park.Change but can be accessed fully below.
